Patients love it because it seems so modern. Looking at a dim, projected image in a semi-dark room now seems so old fashioned. With Chart-MAX, the patient sees a bright LCD display that is visible even with the room lights on. Many patients comment that the refraction is now easier than before.
The doctor sees the same image on his desk computer that the patient sees on the eye chart. With simple mouse clicks, the doctor can go up or down a line at a time. A click can isolate a single line or a single letter. Another click can change the letters in the chart, the line, or a letter to different letters. A click will display a bi-chrome chart or a fan dial chart.
It is great for kids and non-readers. There is a complete eye chart with animal figures and a tumbling E chart.
Doctors love Chart-MAX because they can refract with the lights on. No more guessing at the axis in a dark room. It is also easier on the neck because you do not have to look up at the eye chart above the patient all day. You simply look at your computer monitor and see the same thing.
Chart-MAX has a menu and a simple intuitive graphic interface. The most common arrangement uses a single mirror in which the patient views the LCD (with reversed letters) on the wall above the patient. Calibration for most exam rooms is very simple without any geometric optic math problems.
Another feature is the ability to display a picture of the 150 most common eye health findings on the eye chart screen right in front of the patient. There are also short videos explaining eye conditions and procedures.
Also, if you take retinal photographs, you can easily display the patients retinal photo on the screen as you explain their ocular status. Most patients won't forget it and many will tell their families and friends.
